Mesotherapy is a non-surgical cosmetic technique, where medication is injected into the mesoderm (the layer of fat and connective tissue under the skin). These microinjections consist of pharmaceutical and homeopathic medications, plant extracts, vitamins, amino acids, enzymes and other ingredients tailored specifically for each patient to optimize results. The medications are used melt the fat beneath the skin, which dissolves and is excreted by the kidneys and the bowels.
Mesotherapy is performed by a licensed physician, trained in performing mesotherapy procedures. The doctor uses a very fine needle, which penetrates the mesoderm at only a very small depth. The doctor pinches the skin prior to and during the injection to minimize an uncomfortable sensation. The injections are made at small distances (one inch intervals along the affected area) and in small doses per treatment.
The injections are administered in specific areas, depending on the condition being treated. This cosmetic procedure is used in for a variety of purposes, including facial rejuvenation (mesolift), sports injuries, overall weight loss, cellulite treatment, liposculpting and body contouring , cellulite reduction, hair regrowth, alopecia, scar revision and wrinkle elimination. Mesotherapy is also used to correct unevenness, lumps, or divots that develop after liposuction.
How does mesotherapy cellulite reduction work?
Cellulite affects over 90% of females no matter what weight or age. Cellulite is a lumpy and dimpled appearance of the skin that generally affects the hips, buttocks, legs, and midsection. This condition is caused when connective tissue bands (septae) hold down areas of the skin and trap the fat, while other areas bulge outward. This results in a lumpy, bumpy appearance. The mesotherapy treatment formula used in treatment is based on the patient’s grade of cellulite.
There are four stages of cellulite:
• Stage 0 – No visible cellulite, even when skin is pinched.
• Stage 1 – No visible cellulite when standing or lying down; however, cellulite can be seen when skin is pinched.
• Stage 2 – Visible cellulite when standing, but not when lying down.
• Stage 3 – Visible cellulite when standing or lying down.
When injected, the mesotherapy medication stimulates the cells to release the fat within so that it can be dissolved and excreted by the body. Mesotherapy treatment also improves blood flow and lymphatic drainage of the target area, it removes the connective tissue bands, and melts the excess of fat deposits.
How effective is Mesotherapy?
Since cellulite is a chronic condition, it can up to 10 – 15 ten sessions to completely correct the condition. Mesotherapy is a great non-invasive alternative to liposuction, and an alternative for small area sculpturing or as an option for patients who are not surgical candidates for liposuction. However, the technique is not a complete replacement for liposuction. As with many other cosmetic procedures, mesotherapy is most effective when combined with a comprehensive system of diet, exercise, nutritional supplementation and hormone balancing.
How is mesotherapy used in body sculpting?
Mesotherapy injections are also used for cosmetic contouring of the abdomen, face, neck, back, bra-lines, legs, thighs, and hands. Vitamins and amino acids are injected to tighten sagging skin while other mesotherapy medications are used to treat areas of fat. Mesotherapy body sculpting can restore your body to a more youthful and athletic appearance, without the physical discomfort and downtime that is associated with cosmetic surgery. The doctor custom tailors a formula for the patient, depending on the patient’s individual requirements. These injections will slowly diffuse into the fat under the skin and produce fat breakdown. Visible results can be measured in inches, and are usually achieved within 4 weeks. Although the number of required treatment can vary for each patient, when combined with exercise and a healthy lifestyle, the results can be long lasting.
What is “Mesolift”?
The mesolift treats aging, sagging, and wrinkling of the skin on the face and neck. It halts the progression of wrinkling and rejuvenates the complexion. Mesolift shrinks fat from under the neck, removes free radical damage, and tightens loose skin. This is a non-surgical alternative to rejuvenate the face, eyelids, and neck.
This treatment is great for:
* smokers
* patients with “tired” skin
* patients who have undergone previous dermabrasion treatments
* patients with excessive sun exposure
What is “Mesosculpt”?
Mesosculpt is the process of sculpting the face using mesotherapy. The injections are used to enhance the prominence of the cheekbones, decrease fat in the chin area or reduce the amount of fat in the neck. Mesotherapy can also be used to eliminate the “tired look” by reducing the fat or puffy areas found under the eyes. It can also decrease the appearance of smile lines or jowls or create a new jaw line. Mesosculpting has become very popular because of the illusion of overall weight loss it creates.
Are there any side effects?
Generally, most patients experience minimal discomfort with mesotherapy. Some patients may develop minimal local pain, a minor burning sensation for a few hours, and temporary bruising. Itching and soreness may be experienced for a few days. Although rare, it is possible that allergic reaction may occur in some people.
