Application is easy and should be done right before bedtime. While standing in front of a mirror, the patient should place a drop of Latisse® on an applicator, glide it along the upper eyelid at the base of the lashes, and blot away any excess with a clean tissue. Then repeat the process with the lashes of the other eye. Latisse® should be applied to the upper lid only, since transfer of Latisse® solution from the upper to lower eyelid occurs naturally because the eyelids are closed and the eyelashes touch each other. Over application can increase the chance of experiencing side effects. Latisse® is recommended to be used in the evening, after all makeup and contact lenses have been removed.
Results can be seen as early as 4 weeks, and over the course of several hair growth cycles (approximately 16 weeks), 80% of patients reported thicker, fuller, and darker lashes. If the treatment process is discontinued, the lashes will return to their previous state. A small percentage of patients have reported minimal side effects while using Latisse®, including mild eye itchiness and redness. Rarer side effects can include darkening of the eye lid skin, irritation, and eye dryness.
